Emergency Response in the Air Show Environment: Always Ready

Wednesday, December 5th 2018 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Versailles 1-2

Much of the air show community’s collective energy has been focused on improving emergency response to air show incidents and accidents. Most recently, that focus has been reflected in changes to FAA Order 8900.1, Volume 3, Chapter 6, Section 1 that mandate every U.S. air show to conduct a pre-show emergency response drill and position ARFF/CFR vehicles and personnel in such a way that they can be planeside within 60 seconds following an incident or accident. Also in the last three years, ICAS has been working with air show performers to develop a comprehensive database of aircraft extraction information (lift points, fuel cut-off, canopy opening instructions, etc.) to aid first responders in the event of an incident/accident. In this session, we will review and discuss these recent developments and other tips and advice for conducting a rapid and successful response to any accident at any air show in North America.
