Understanding the Risks of the Air Show Performance Environment: a Panel Discussion

Tuesday, December 4th 2018 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Champagne 1

In this session, a unique panel of experts will discuss the most common hazards of the general aviation flying environment and then extend that discussion into how many of those same problems are often replicated in the air show environment. Drawing on GA flying mistakes, military aviation safety lessons, ideas from NASA’s 60+ years of manned flight, and specific air show accidents and incidents, Bunce will lead the panel in a conversation that puts air show incidents and accidents in a context different than that usually used to explain and better understand air show safety. An encore performance of a successful session conducted at the Fall, 2018 GAMA Safety and Accident Investigation Committee Meeting, this presentation is being offered to help active air show pilots develop a different perspective on the hazards of air show flying.
